Green wood work blog

Wed Jun 3, 2009, 1:47 PM
My blog is here and is regularly updated [link]

deviantID

Wood is my material, hand cut with axe and knife (my first love)and noisy dusty electric tools.

I want to learn more about traditional wood crafts from around the world, for example fan birds, shrink pots, animated toys and puzzles

Devious Info

  • Tools of the Trade: axe and knife, but not always

Hi
Well lets just say use a soft wood like basswood or tulip and boil, put in a vice and squeeze, bang through hole and soak in warm water again, then carve!

Have not yet got around to doing my workshop dates etc this year

Love your work, shows a real love for the craft. What do you use to carve wood? And where do you buy your tools?
:iconwoodwrightman:
Hi there
I not sure where you live but do an interenet search for sloyd carving knives or frost knives and for axes the large carving axe at [link]
:iconkubusrubus:
Thank you, I was looking at sloyd knives, and had a similar one from finland...do you ever use any japanese tools?
:iconwoodwrightman:
Would love to but very expensive, I like the fact that there saws are pull saws so the blade and kerf can be very thin, heres alink to a mad video [link] also have a look at my web site video page. I have found some amazing vids from around the world [link]
:iconkubusrubus:
Im a remodeler (carpenter/electrician/painter/tiler) by trade, and i use inexpensive japanese saws
all the time, theyre absolutely amazing! i can cut a 2x4 in seconds. Here in the US there are several
companies that sell japanese tools and most are quite affordable given that they last very long.
Thanks, I will definitely check out the videos.
